Outlaws get heavy airplay

Press release

Ireland’s top country deejays are giving heavy rotation to Empty mansions, the groundbreaking CD by the Outlaws, a contemporary country band based in Co. Monaghan. In May the Outlaws won the Top Entertaining Band Award 2007 at the Tipperary Mid-West Radio Country Awards dinner and ceremony at the Templemore Arms, Co. Tipperary, where the band performed three songs. The Outlaws have seen their popularity and audience grow steadily as Empty mansions (Sharpe CD 310) has earned 'album of the week' and the coveted #1 spot on radio stations throughout the country. The band plays to full houses everywhere they go, with fans travelling hundreds of miles to come see them.

The Outlaws have become a major attraction on the dance scene in Ireland, Scotland, and the UK. The band, which incorporates folk and bluegrass instruments, writes its own material and also plays a wide range of country hits, all woven together to create a wall of sound unlike anything heard in contemporary music. With a unique line-up that boasts old-time fiddle, 5-string banjo, button accordion, guitar, bass and drums, the band produces an original sound and infectious beat unheard anywhere else in American or Irish country music today. Band members are: Sean Hughes (guitar, vocals), Diane Treanor (fiddle, vocals), Tom Hanway (5-string banjo, vocals), Brian Walsh (drums, vocals), Barry Lenard (button accordion), and Myles Watson (bass).

The Outlaws, Ireland’s hardest-working country dance band, are riding high, galloping from one end of the country to the other, and roping in new fans and converts wherever they appear. Every Outlaws show is a genuine hoedown, a rowdy event with fans singing along and dancing for hours on end. The Outlaws get dozens of requests each night and do their best to honour them all. They recently toured the Highlands of Scotland, winning over new audiences, who proclaimed from one town to the next that this was 'an authentic country' band and 'a real country band', like the classic honky-tonk bands who all but vanished decades ago.

What is most interesting about the Outlaws is their uncanny ability to blend traditional styles into a fresh, contemporary alt-country sound - styles which include bluegrass, old-time, Cajun, Irish, Tex-Mex, and honky-tonk. Empty mansions is a must-have CD in every hardcore country fan’s collection, and it is available in all major record outlets, fine music shops, and at all Outlaws gigs. The band is busy writing, collaborating and working up new songs for their next eagerly awaited release.

Mr. Hawkins, my name is John Andrew Sullivan from Raleigh, North Carolina, my daddy was from Cork, Millstreet town. I have been on the Millstreet website, and have enjoyed the tv programs from the local station. My question: an Irish Bluegrass band "The Outlaws" performed the lead in music for show #183 the song is Waiting for Deirdre to play, the song is just grand much like the music from my beloved state of North Carolina,is that song on a cd? Hello, Mr Sullivan,

It's always good to hear from North Carolina! I regret that we have no current information about the Outlaws, and neither the band nor their CD Empty mansions (which may have the song you're looking for) seem to turn up on an internet search. If anything is discovered, we'll post the results here. All good wishes,

Richard Hawkins

Mr Sullivan,

I'm sorry to report that our sources for information on the Outlaws have dried up. Unless another BIB reader can help, there seems to be no prospect of getting an answer to your question. Sorry not to be more helpful.

This last comment, on a post published over ten years ago, was received on 11 June 2016. We can only repeat what we said on Mr Gray's last inquiry - the latest news we had of this band was eight years ago. Perhaps some reader can help?

The Outlaws I think you are looking for are an Irish band based in county Monaghan Ireland and yes it is difficult to track them down! Maybe because they're outlaws! Sorry! You can find their music on YouTube if that's any help.
