Latest Omagh festival information

Thanks to the Ulster American Folk Park at Omagh, Co. Tyrone, for an e-newsletter reminder of this year's Bluegrass Music Festival (31 Aug.-2 Sept.), with photos of the concert headliners, 'Bluegrass in the Park' lineups for all three days, and links to more details and online booking facilities - all of which can be reached on the main website. The programme can also be downloaded and printed off.

Thanks also to Andrea Kennedy of JPR for drawing special attention to the 'Spirit of Bluegrass' gospel concert that ends the festival - headlined by Kentucky-born, IBMA-award-winning Don Rigsby, with his band Midnight Call, and the Branchettes, the African-American duo of Lena Mae Perry and Wilbur Tharpe. Event organiser Richard Hurst says:

The Sunday evening concert is always a wonderful event and it’s fantastic to welcome such a high-profile name as Don Rigsby as well as seeing Lena Mae Perry, who has built up a loyal fan base here, return to the Folk Park for the third time. Don Rigsby has a rich heritage and lifelong experience in traditional music and is dedicated to preserving the sounds of old. The Branchettes are one of America's most celebrated traditional gospel ensembles, a powerful duo with a deeply traditional edge. Both acts are truly inspirational and we are sure our visitors will enjoy them immensely.

The 'Spirit of Bluegrass' gospel concert begins at 6.00 p.m. on Sunday 2 Sept. Tickets cost £12 and can be bought online or by calling the ticket hotline, 028 8224 3292.
